Noise a big bugbear for one million residents

One million Hong Kongers are living in a noisy environment, the Democratic Alliance for the Betterment and Progress of Hong Kong has discovered.

According to a DAB survey of 755 people last month, about one-quarter of homeowners said they regretted buying their flats because of noise problems.
But when asked what they would consider when buying a property, only 7 percent of respondents said they considered the environment an important factor, while 36 percent cared most about the location.
The DAB's Choy So-yuk said the result showed one-fourth of owners regretted buying their property, "which is quite an alarming situation."
"Many owners complained to the government that there was a lot of noise coming from nearby facilities," she said, adding that developers should improve building designs.
